PDP Suspends 2 For Diverting Jonathan’s Campaign Fund

The chairman and secretary of People Democratic Party (PDP) Shiroro local government area of Niger State, Alhaji Iro Kurebe and Ibrahim Isah respectively, have been suspended by the ward chairmen for allegedly diverting former president Goodluck Jonathan campaign fund meant for 184 polling units in the area.

In what seems to be the outcome of the review of the poor outing of the party in the last election, the 14 PDP ward chairmen of the area accused the two officials of the party of diverting N3 million meant for the presidential campaign in the area for the last general election.

The suspension of the chairman and secretary was contained in a two-page resolution, copied to the zonal and state chapters of the party and made available to journalists yesterday. It was signed by the 14 ward chairmen.

The letter read in part, “during presidential election conducted in March 2015, each polling unit was to get N10,000 and we have 184 units making N10,000 by 184 totalling N1.840 million. The two party officials also collected N1.5 million from deputy chairman of the party, Barr Tanko Beji. The money was meant for campaign of PDP in the area”.

The letter alleged further that “the chairman and secretary illegally deducted N391,000 from the monthly allowances given local government and ward executives without our consent. The then deputy governor candidate, Kantigi supported the party with N1.2 million, including motorcycles also from Hajiya Jumai Babangida Aliyu but all these went into thin air”.

The ward chairmen said the party has began reorganising and restructuring ahead 2019 election and would therefore not allow people with questionable character to hold any executive position in the party because they were the cause of the failures of the party.
