Senator Abdulrahman Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has lost his senatorial seat to Attai Aidoko of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The Kogi State Elections Petition Tribunal handling petitions in the State ruled that Senator Abubakar cede his seat to Aidoko.
The Petition Tribunal stated that Aidoko is the legitimate winner of the April 11 legislative election in the State.
There are indications that the Senators from Kogi state may all lose their seats following irregularities trailing the process of nominating candidates by the APC in the State.
Earlier, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had written to the party in the state that it did not follow the laid down procedure of conducting primaries for its candidates.
One of the points that the defeated PDP Senator Sam Adeyemi raised against Dino Melaye was that Dino was not duly nominated by the APC.
Before now, INEC had written to the party saying primaries were not conducted at the party level and this seems to be strong evidence against the APC failing to follow electoral guidelines which the PDP will want to use in its case.
