The social media in Nigeria is agog with the news that the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal has sacked Nyesom Wike as the Governor of Rivers state.
The tribunal, which has been sitting in the nation’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja because of security concerns in Rivers state delivered its ruling today, October 24, and also ordered that a fresh governorship election be conducted in the state.

Nigerians have been awaiting the verdict of the Rivers tribunal as the election had attracted so much attention from the media during the electioneering period.
The All Progressives Congress alongside its gubernatorial candidate, Dakuku Peterside had been contesting the declaration of Governor Wike by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the Rivers state governorship poll in the April 11 general election.
The INEC had declared Wike who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the election with 1,029,102 votes as against Peterside’s 124,896.
