THE BillioNair€$’ Club: Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah The Visionary Oil Mogul


A Japanese proverb goes “Vision without action is a daydream, while action without vision is a nightmare.” This is the case with Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah who put his vision into action, making him a celebrated success worldwide.
The visionary chief executive officer and managing director, Capital Oil & Gas Industries Limited, no doubt is an ambitious business tycoon who from the very day he joined the oil and gas business, decided to distinguish himself and the company creditably. Through dint of hard work, personal conviction to succeed, visionary leadership and doggedness, he has in a matter of nine years, between 2003 and 2011, taken Capital Oil & Gas Industries Limited to an enviable position of becoming a dominant leader in the downstream sector of the Nigerian oil and gas industry. He also seats on the board of several other companies as chairman, among which are; Knoll & Hachfer Engineering Co Ltd, Chevron Oronite & Chemical Co Ltd, Hero Communications Ltd, First Nigeria Independent Oil Co Ltd, Commodity Giants, Nigeria Limited and Oil Force Nigeria Limited.
Born into the modest family of late Mr and Mrs. Alphonsus Ubah of Umuanuka, Otolo, Nnewi, Anambra State, in September 1971, Ubah, a man of humble beginnings, amiable, likeable and with a good natured personality holds a B.Sc in International Relations.
As a man driven by passion to succeed and excel in all his chosen endeavours, Ubah who is well-focused and energetic works almost round the clock, which is why he is able to take tough and far-reaching business decisions that mark him out as an entrepreneur of repute as well as a tactful and foresighted business mogul of the 21st century.
His business interests include Oil & Gas, Jetty Development, Bonded Terminal, Truck Park facilities, Telecommunication, Real Estate and General Merchandise.
He was profiled by the Oxford Brooks magazine as one of the ‘Forty under Forty 2009’, that is, the top forty young Nigerian business leaders under the age of forty. Ubah has received numerous awards and honours both in Nigeria and abroad in recognition of his leadership qualities and outstanding performance in the oil and gas industry.
In appreciation of his creative leadership, dynamism, resourcefulness as well as contribution in human capital development, he was conferred with an Honourary Doctor of Philosophy in Critical and Creative Thinking by the prestigious Montclair State University, New Jersey, USA. He has been actively involved in top flight business management for over two decades with vast experience in international business and has attended several local and international courses and seminars in leadership and business management.
There is also a part of this able visionary leader that is outstanding; He is a philanthropist of note and a motivator par excellence. He provides succour to the needy through the Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, which awards university scholarship to students. He has sunk boreholes for his community, Nnewi; installed electricity transformers in various communities in Anambra State, regularly repairs/grades community roads and has, over time, kindheartedly provided free fuel every Monday in all his filling stations to commercial motorcyclists popularly known as ‘Okada’ riders and bus drivers.
He is fondly called ‘Ebube Chukwu Uzo’, meaning “putting God first in all ones dealings. This has not only remained his guiding principle, but has indeed been the source of his strength and success.
In recognition of his numerous contributions to the economic development of the nation and entrepreneurial ingenuity, the Federal University of Technology, Owerri awarded him a Doctor of Management Technology (DMT).
