THE IMPLICATIONS OF AMAECHI’S SCREENING BY APC SENATORS

By Fred Philips

The most controversial ministerial nominee in the history of Nigeria with corruption allegations hanging over his neck was escorted to the Senate for screening by his Party’s National Chairman and the Special Adviser to the president on National Assembly matters. The glorification of corruption has taken a new dimension. The fears of many Nigerians and the International community that the presidency was behind the shielding of the former governor has now been confirmed. It is on public record that the former governor contributed immensely to the funding of President Buhari’s elections and sponsored majority of other Apc candidates in the last general elections. Allowing a man who is being accused of milking his state dry to face trial for embezzlement would amount to betrayal and may open cans of worm that would destroy the reputation of the president and his party. The screening of Amaechi by the APC senators has succeeded in destroying the anti corruption fight of Mr President and has also exposed the high level hypocrisy and double standards associated with the present regime.
