Stop marrying many wives, IGP Arase tells police officers

Solomon Arase, inspector-general of police (IGP), has advised police officers to avoid “marrying many wives” in order to be able to take good care of their family. The police boss said some of his men have formed the habit of taking new wives when transfer takes them out of their command. He was speaking in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti state, during a visit to the Ekiti state police command. “Stop marrying too many wives and bear only the number of children you can cater to,” he said. “Some of you have wives in your commands, but when you are transfered, you arrive in your new commands and marry another wife and start a new family there. for working hard to combat crime in the state but warned against extra-judicial killings. He said the force would not hesitate to deal with officers who do not respect the rights of the people. “I am complaining that I have no money to send you for training, why must we now incur more litigation?” he asked. “Nigerians are more intelligent now; if you infringe on their right, they will go to court and unfortunately the IG will be the person to be sued even while he was not there when it happened. And when I am sued, the police’s accounts will be garnisheed . “We must learn how to respect the fundamental rights of the citizens. We have trained officers who carry arms, and you owe the responsibility to protect lives and property and that was why you were trained.” Responding to a question on the arrest warrant on Government Ekpemupolo, ex-militant leader better known as Tompolo, Arase said his men were on the trail of Tompolo. “We are looking for Tompolo and my men are on his trail. We will arrest him anywhere we sight him,” he said. A federal high court issued a warrant of arrest against the militant leader after he failed to honour the summons of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegation of diversion of public funds. On Thursday, the EFCC declared Ekpemupolo wanted.
