As the trial of the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki, gets tougher and his fate of completing a four–year term as the leader of the Senate continues to dim, the Senator representing Kogi-West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, has declared his unwavering support for Saraki.
The Senator made this declaration via his Facebook page on Friday, April 22, maintaining that he would support Saraki till he dies.
This is coming after reports emerged that some senators might withdraw their support for the Senate President, following intense pressure from the All Progressives Congress, APC, in order to stop the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from taking over the Senate.
A PDP Senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta, Senator Peter Nwaboshi, has
threatened that the party will take over the Senate Presidency from the APC if Saraki is removed from office due to his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.
“I can tell you that the PDP will produce the next Senate President. We only need three and we have it. The calculation is very clear to me. The calculation is very clear for the PDP. We know what it will take us.” Nwaboshi boasted.
While some APC lawmakers might be thinking of withdrawing support, Dino remains confident that Saraki will surely have a 4-year run as the Senate President.
He said, “My brother and friend Sen. Bukola Saraki, if you have 1 trillion supporters I’m one, if you have one billion I’m one, if you have one million I’m one, if you have one thousand I’m one, if you have ten I’m one, if you have only one supporter I’m one and if you have no single supporter it means I’m dead. No shaking. Four years tooo sure.”
